John Larson has filed articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, accusing him of war crimes and other violations tied to presidential authority.<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1982944\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em><strong>The resolution was introduced and referred to the House Judiciary Committee.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough his serial usurpation of the congressional war power and commission of murder, war crimes and piracy, Donald J. Trump has acted contrary to his trust as president,\u201d the resolution states.<\/p>\n<p>It adds that his actions are \u201csubversive of constitutional government\u201d and harmful to the American people.<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7063311234970495\" data-ad-slot=\"8873831892\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><\/p>\n<p>The effort is unlikely to advance in a Republican-controlled House.<\/p>\n<p>The measure has not gained traction beyond its referral to committee, according to the Congressional Record.<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7063311234970495\" data-ad-slot=\"4192490470\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><\/p>\n<p>White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed the move, calling it \u201cpathetic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats have been talking about impeaching President Trump since before he was even sworn into office,\u201d Ingle said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution comes amid escalating rhetoric surrounding Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Larson pointed to recent statements by the president, including a social media post warning that \u201ca whole civilization will die tonight\u201d if Iran does not accept a deal.<\/p>\n<p>Larson said the impeachment effort is aimed at removing the president from office, arguing the administration\u2019s actions risk American lives.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1982945\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump has blown past every requirement to be removed from office,\u201d Larson said Tuesday. \u201cHis illegal war in Iran is not only driving up prices for American families \u2014 it has cost American lives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1970893\" data-uid=\"180cc\">\n<div id=\"mgw1970893_180cc\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a separate statement, Larson called on Congress to act, citing constitutional limits on presidential war powers. \u201cCongress cannot let any leader assert that he is above the Constitution,\u201d he said. \u201cArticle I makes it clear that he must come before Congress to authorize acts of war,\u201d he said.<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-7063311234970495\" data-ad-slot=\"8966645281\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><\/p>\n<p>U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy also weighed in, calling for the invocation of the 25th Amendment, which outlines a process to remove a president from office. Larson echoed that call, urging the Cabinet to consider that option.<\/p>\n<p>Other lawmakers have made similar attempts. U.S. Rep. Al Green and U.S. Rep. Any new impeachment effort would face a similar hurdle, requiring Senate conviction to remove a president from office.<\/p>\n<p>Larson, who has served in Congress since 1999, is currently facing primary challenges, including from former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin.
