After speaking with President Donald Trump and other Republicans this week, Baier revealed that many lawmakers are still pushing hard for the bill to be passed before November\u2019s midterms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"2028894\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>House has already passed the Save Act three times. Now, it\u2019s been sitting in the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"2010591\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\"><\/div>\n<p>Below is a transcript of Baier and Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy providing an update on the situation:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The U.S<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>BAIER: \u201cAs we told you earlier, while lawmakers are split over the president\u2019s handling of the Iran conflict, both Republicans and Democrats are facing their own internal political problems. Republicans are grappling with a legislative stalemate over the SAVE America Act as Democrats are divided over competing visions for their party\u2019s future. Chief congressional correspondent Chad Pergram is following it all from Capitol Hill.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>[Clip starts]<\/em>\u00a0<em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cPresident Trump direct in his meeting with Senate Republicans.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Trump: \u2018We like everybody really in the room. I don\u2019t like a few people, but that\u2019s okay. I think you know who they are.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The move comes after a group of hard-line Republicans refused to support procedural rules needed to advance legislation unless the Senate acts on the SAVE America Act or the House takes additional steps to pressure the upper chamber<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cThe president verbally sparred with GOP Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy. The president ditched Cassidy in the Louisiana primary. Cassidy then voted to hamstring the president on Iran.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>CASSIDY: \u201cThe president didn\u2019t want to hear my question, interrupted me. I didn\u2019t care to be interrupted. (\u2026) And I\u2019m not going to be bullied when I\u2019m trying to get answers for the American people. So \u2014 so it escalated from there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cThe president demanded the Republicans kill the filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act, but that remains stalled.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to pass a MIRV, or what\u2019s better known as a merge onto the rule,\u201d Johnson said<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>TUBERVILLE: \u201cI don\u2019t know whether it moved him. If they don\u2019t change their vote after that talk, then we won\u2019t be able to get to them.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cWhen pressed about the signing of the bipartisan housing bill, the president pivoted to last night\u2019s New York Democratic primary.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Trump: \u201cThe people that they are pushing are communists, and this country is not going to have communists.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cSo that will send both of those items together over to the Senate, and so if any Republicans choose to vote against the rule, they will be voting against that outcome<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cDemocratic socialists ran the table.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>CHEVALIER: \u201cWhat we have delivered here today is a clear mandate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cRepublicans say Democratic socialists could alarm mainstream voters.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Johnson: \u201cThere are many Mamdanis popping up all around the country.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cHouse minority leader Hakeem Jeffries downplayed the primary results.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Jeffries: \u201cI think there are two current members of the DSA that are part of the House Democratic Caucus out of 215. That number may grow to four.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM (voice-over): \u201cSome Democrats doubt that the DSA showing resonates.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>BLUMENTHAL: \u201cNew York is not the nation. And all politics is, in fact, local.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<em>[Clip ends]<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PERGRAM: \u201cThe House GOP\u2019s campaign arm sent condolence flowers to Jeffries after his preferred candidates lost. Republicans say Jeffries\u2019 influence is waning. Bret?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/x\/status\/3593604<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson unveiled a new strategy this week to force Senate action on the SAVE America Act.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker announced plans to merge the election integrity measure with the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act after conservatives brought House business to a standstill.<\/p>\n<p>The SAVE America Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections and require voters to present identification when casting a ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters Monday, Johnson said House Republicans would use an unusual parliamentary procedure known as \u201cMIRVing\u201d to package the two bills together before sending them to the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo what that means is, when Republicans vote for the rule, they\u2019ll be voting not just for the NDAA and everything else is there, but they\u2019ll be voting to merge onto that the SAVE America Act we passed back in February.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson said the maneuver would ensure the Senate receives both measures together.<\/p>\n<p>So we think this is another good way to show the resolve of the House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposal is designed to demonstrate House Republicans\u2019 commitment to election integrity legislation while attempting to increase pressure on the Senate to consider the bill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fox News anchor Bret Baier is providing a big update on the Save America Act and what is happening to the bill in Congress.
