Kerry Sheron, the Southern California Army veteran known for owning the iconic \u201cTrump House,\u201d is fighting for his life after a brutal assault outside his home, with his wife saying the odds of his survival are virtually nonexistent.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Escondido police responded around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday to reports of an assault in progress near the intersection of East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street, directly adjacent to Sheron\u2019s heavily decorated home.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they found the 69-year-old suffering from catastrophic injuries.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Authorities said a utility worker who witnessed the attack stepped in and helped restrain the suspect until police arrived.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Sheron was rushed to a trauma center, where he remained in critical condition in the ICU.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

His wife, Maria Garcia, gave a devastating update as the family waits for what appears to be the worst.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

She told reporters she does not expect her husband to survive.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Garcia also believes the attack may have been politically motivated, given the history surrounding the home.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHe tried to kill my husband, you know,\u201d Garcia told CBS 8. \u201cIt\u2019s terrible. I don\u2019t know what kind of hate\u2026 what heart, the black heart.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The home, known throughout the San Diego area as the \u201cTrump House,\u201d has long been covered in American flags, patriotic decorations and pro-Trump displays.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

For years, the property has attracted both supporters and critics.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Garcia suggested the visible patriotic displays may have fueled hostility.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t like the flags. I don\u2019t know why. I support America. My husband is [a] veteran,\u201d she said.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Police arrested 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler, who has now been charged with attempted murder.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

He is being held without bail at the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Authorities say Butler fled the scene after the attack but was quickly tracked down and arrested.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Police also said a bystander who intervened during the violence suffered injuries.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

A friend of Butler told the California Post that the suspect is a Navy veteran with serious mental health struggles.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the guy that plays with Legos and Star Wars stuff,\u201d the friend reportedly said.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

According to the friend, Butler had been taking medication for mental illness, but his condition had worsened significantly.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The friend described Butler as increasingly paranoid and unstable.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHe sits in his room and thinks everyone is coming to get him,\u201d the friend reportedly said.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The same source said Butler had been unemployed after his time in the Navy.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

While police have not publicly declared a motive, Sheron\u2019s home has previously been the target of vandalism and complaints.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Its highly visible political messaging made it one of the most recognizable private homes in the area.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

That history has fueled immediate speculation that politics may have played a role.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa called for swift action.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cFull and immediate investigation,\u201d Issa wrote on X.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

He also claimed Trump supporters are increasingly being targeted.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

President Trump\u2019s supporters are \u201croutinely the victims of leftist violence all across the country,\u201d Issa said.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

At this stage, investigators have not publicly confirmed whether politics played any role in the alleged attempted killing.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Mental illness may also be a major factor, based on accounts from those who knew the suspect.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Still, for Sheron\u2019s family, those questions are secondary to the immediate tragedy unfolding.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Sheron\u2019s patriotic home became a symbol for supporters in the area who saw it as an unapologetic display of American pride.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
