Sen. John Fetterman has been a Democrat all of his political life but the party continues to shift to the hard left, leaving him wondering if he has a future there.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He made that abundantly clear again on Friday in a social media post excoriating the rising hard-left \u2018democratic\u2019 socialists.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael keeps killing Hamas members. @DemSocialists, cry harder,\u201d he wrote in an X post tagging the Democratic Socialists of America.<\/strong><\/p>\n

His post came after the Israeli Defense Forces posted they had eliminated several Hamas terrorists.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cELIMINATED: Abdallah Jahja, a terrorist in the Naval Force of Hamas\u2019 military wing who infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 Massacre,\u201d the IDF\u2019s post stated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The post added that \u201c2 additional Hamas terrorists were eliminated,\u201d including \u201cMohammed Al-Hawari, a cell commander in Hamas\u2019 Zeitoun Battalion\u201d and \u201cSabhi Saqallah, observation operative in Hamas\u2019 Zeitoun Battalion.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe terrorists advanced terror attacks targeting IDF troops & Israeli civilians,\u201d the IDF added.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetterman told Fox News Channel\u2019s Kayleigh McEnany last week that \u201cthese DSA people are deeply anti-Israel\u201d as well as \u201cdeeply anti-America.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pennsylvania lawmaker added that he \u201cwill always be the last man standing within the Democratic caucus in the Senate that\u2019s pro-unapologetically standing for Israel.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael is our special ally, and I\u2019m always proud to stand with Israel,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetterman\u2019s emerging independent streak on the political stage is raising eyebrows among his Senate colleagues and giving fodder to his progressive critics, sparking speculation about whether he might exit the Democratic Party.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last week, Fetterman said he would formally change his affiliation if opposition to Israel becomes an official part of the Democratic Party\u2019s platform.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is the first time he\u00a0has laid out\u00a0a scenario under which he would leave.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetterman\u2019s colleagues are skeptical he can win a Democratic primary. One Democratic senator, who asked to speak on background so he could be candid, said he was worried about Fetterman making a surprise party switch.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI am concerned,\u201d the senator told NOTUS.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetterman has pointed to recent contested primaries as evidence that the party is changing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cLook at the kinds of people that are winning our primaries. Not just, \u2018I\u2019m pro-Palestinian,\u2019 but, \u2018I\u2019m intensely anti-Israel.\u2019 That\u2019s a significant difference,\u201d Fetterman told NOTUS.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetterman\u2019s decision to create a joint fundraising committee with Republican Sen. Dave McCormick, his Pennsylvania colleague with whom he has a uniquely close bipartisan friendship, is also sparking questions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joint fundraising committees are a common way to bulk up one\u2019s coffers, but it\u2019s highly unusual for participants to be from different political parties, a move that didn\u2019t go unnoticed by his Senate colleagues.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never seen it before. Yes, I\u2019m struck by it,\u201d Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland), who served as chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, told NOTUS.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pennsylvania), a progressive who has left the door open to a potential challenge to Fetterman once his term expires in 2028, called Fetterman\u2019s decision to team up with McCormick on fundraising \u201ccrazy stuff.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have battleground races in Pennsylvania that we are trying to flip, and now we\u2019ve got John Fetterman helping the Republicans to raise money to beat Democrats,\u201d Deluzio told MeidasTouch last week.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetterman downplayed the joint fundraising committee with McCormick, telling the Washington Examiner, \u201cIt\u2019s nothing sinister.\u201d<\/strong>
\n\u201cIt\u2019s just \u2014 people have joint interest in the things that we happen to agree on, if we both represent Pennsylvania,\u201d he told the outlet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fetterman has become more and more estranged from the Democratic Party.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He votes with Democrats on most bills and nominations, but his backing of Israel, the Iran war and border security has annoyed some in his party.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As such, he enjoys attacking far-left Democrats, most recently criticizing progressives for backing Platner in Maine\u2019s Senate race.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
