Speaking this month on the Jamie Kern Lima Show, Jill Biden, 75, said she is trying to stay focused on the present as the family confronts what the illness means for the years ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course I\u2019m scared,\u201d she said. \u201cI mean, first of all, he\u2019s almost 10 years older than I am. And with an illness \u2026 you kinda can\u2019t let your head go there.\u201d She said she cannot imagine life without him, but that she has come to accept mortality. \u201cYou know they\u2019re going to die \u2014 just like I know I\u2019m going to die. So part of it, you accept.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"2059714\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>She described her husband as \u201cstrong\u201d and \u201cresilient\u201d and said he has not shared fears about the illness with her. \u201cHe\u2019s always been the strength of our family,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than dwell on the diagnosis, she said the couple is trying to treat each day as time worth using. \u201cWe look at it like, \u2018Joe has cancer. He\u2019s gonna die, so let\u2019s make the most of every moment,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cLet\u2019s be together \u2026 let\u2019s find things that bring us joy. Let\u2019s make this a positive journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The remarks follow an earlier update. On June 1, appearing on NBC\u2019s Today, Jill Biden said her husband was \u201cdoing okay\u201d but that the spread of the cancer to his bones \u201cmakes it a whole different story.\u201d \u201cI think Joe will live with cancer \u2019til the rest of his life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Their son Hunter Biden struck a more sobering note in an August interview with the BBC. He said the cancer had \u201cmetastasized into his bones and further,\u201d calling it \u201cvery painful\u201d and \u201cvery debilitating.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s really sad to watch,\u201d he said, adding that he wished his father would complain more because \u201cit\u2019s not good.\u201d He said the former president remains the \u201ccenter of our family\u201d and is \u201cstill doing his thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe Biden\u2019s health was a central issue during his presidency and the 2024 campaign. He left office in January 2025.
